Conversation Guest: Emily Shryock

Emily Shyrock.png

As a disabled woman and wheelchair user, Emily Shryock approaches life with creativity and curiosity and an expectation that all aspects of life should be accessible and inclusive. Given the numerous barriers that still exist for people with disabilities, as well as people of other marginalized identities, Emily spends much of her energy advocating and educating for change personally and professionally. With an educational background in Disability Studies and a Master’s of Science in Social Work, Emily has worked at The University of Texas at Austin for 10 years where she is currently the Assistant Director of the Services for Students with Disabilities office. Emily also serves as the President of ArtSpark Texas and the Vice Chair of the Austin Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities. Emily is a wheelchair athlete and competes in tennis, wheelchair rugby, cycling, racing, and the occasional triathlon. Originally from Indiana, Emily enjoys participating in the many outdoor activities Austin has to offer with her service dog Maple, doing AcroYoga, and building community through meaningful conversations.
